"It's a sad day in Mudsville!" We ususally use this this expression more tongue-in-cheek and referrring to the fact that we are out of something! But this week it was used by my littlest one. Having two best friends move away and still struggling to establish new friends, playdates have taken on a new cherished role. This week she was looking forward to a fun play date at our house and had impressively not only cleaned up her playroom and prepared everything for the time, she had helped picking up the house and vacumning the hearth and putting dishes away - All without complaining and in one setting!
But alas, when the time came for her favorite guests, we got a call that unfortunately the young girl had been grounded, for a week! And what to a week to be grounded as they had early release all week! She bravely handled the call but tears soon ensued. I felt awful for her. (But totally understood the parents needing to enforce the punishment.)
AS we tried to come up with an alternative excursion, she expressed that it indeed was a sad day in Mudsville!
That night when I went in to pray with her and tuck her in, she was listening to praise music and she was doing hand motions to one. When it came to the lyrics, "You are all I need" she had bended knee and lifted hands cupped to her Father in heaven. As the song finished, she saw me and ran and hugged me with a few more tears. (mingled with mine) She said she just needed to remind herself that God was really what she needed and for Him to fill her so it wasn't so sad.
Our almost all sad day in Mudsville had turned into a beautiful lesson and beautiful time with our Heavenly Father, who not only sees our needs but can comfort; and bring good to us and glory to His name, in all things.
